The founding headmaster of both Saheti School and Bishop Bavin School – St Georges, and honorary Rector of Andrews Academy, Reverend Doctor Morgan Ellis sadly passed away.
He served as a lecturer at the Johannesburg Teacher’s Training College before he was appointed to be the founding head of Saheti School. He served at the school from 1974 to 1990 before he was invited to become the founding head of Bishop Bavin School in Bedfordview.
While at Saheti, Rev Dr Ellis was influential in establishing several traditions, including the school song and the design of the school badge. After serving almost 40 years in the education sector he was named as the longest serving head in the Independent Schools Association.
Rev Dr Ellis attained his Master’s degree in Education and his Doctorate in Philosophy. He was also an Anglican Church priest. In his retirement, he continued to preach and was appointed as the honorary Rector of Andrews Academy.
Uncle Morgan, as we affectionately referred to him, was due to preach at our Ascension Day service at school which would have been his last sermon. He unfortunately fell ill and passed away two weeks later. Uncle Morgan was a dear friend, Uncle to Caryn, Principal to Christian and mentor to our students and staff. He is greatly missed and is at peace with the Lord.
